LOUIS BARABBAS + KEVIN TITTERTON + QUIET LONER
Former mime-artist and street sweeper – best known for caustic love songs and energetic stage shows – comes to Defiance Sessions on the back of ‘Project Fear – his recent EP of anthems for post-Brexit Britain, taken from his forthcoming musical.
As front-man for Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six he has played all over the world, sharing the stage with such disparate acts as Motorhead, Supergrass, The Blockheads and Sun Ra’s Arkestra.
Louis passionately believes in the unifying force of music – that good songs have the power to educate, entertain and console. He says that ‘One day he hopes to write one that does all three’ Well we think he might have done it with this one.
“Excellent in every way: an outfit and a voice that belong in smoke-filled gin-joints where the booze drips off the ceiling and love is left outside.”
– Chris Hawkins, BBC Radio 6 Music
“Literate and appealing, intelligently constructed soundscapes… a web of chaos and disorder with a deft touch of humour.”
– R2 (Rock & Reel) Magazine
– Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music
“An artist who just blows you away with sheer originality… music from the heart that is made for dancing but also leaves you thinking. Superlatives are not enough”
– Echoes & Dust Magazine
“Louis Barabbas is such a unique talent. His music is intelligent, witty and has a kick to rival any fine liquer. Simply awesome.”
– Chris Holliday, BBC Radio Manchester
Support comes from Kevin Titterton a punk poet from Sheffield, England. Writing about real life and working class struggle.
Your host for the evening is Quiet Loner – currently songwriter in residence at the People’s History Museum.
